GREAT FACILITIES IN A BEAUTIFUL SETTING - AVAILABLE FOR HIRE
At a parish meeting in April 1919, it was decided that a recreation ground (within the village) would be developed as a public memorial to those who fought and were lost in the first world war.
A site was chosen and house to house collections were made in order to raise funds for the purchase of the designated piece of land (at a cost of £250 ). The recreation ground was opened to the public in August 1924. The villagers were of course delighted and proud, but some had visions of having a Parish hall built on the site. A rough estimate of £1000 was required to build a new hall and Mrs Bowcher along with the volunteers in the community, set too raising funds .
All manner of events took place over a period of time, from the sale of household goods, to animals and a even car. Along with assurance from Mrs Boucher that the balance would be met by her, the build was able to go ahead. In April 1928 an architect and building committee were appointed and work commenced around August 1928. The Memorial hall was completed in record time and opened by Mrs Boucher on 31st December of that same year.
